At Aliya Mental Health, we understand that healing from mental health challenges is not always a linear journey. For many individuals, traditional outpatient therapy may not provide the level of support necessary to achieve meaningful progress. At the same time, full inpatient hospitalization may feel too restrictive or unnecessary. Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) offers an ideal balance—a highly structured, therapeutic environment during the day, with the ability to return home in the evenings.
PHP is one of the most intensive levels of outpatient care, designed for individuals who are experiencing significant mental health symptoms but do not require round-the-clock supervision. It’s a safe, supportive, and empowering treatment option that allows you to receive comprehensive care while remaining connected to your home life, relationships, and responsibilities.
Who Is a Partial Hospitalization Program For?
The Partial Hospitalization Program at Aliya Mental Health is designed for individuals struggling with moderate to severe mental health conditions that interfere with daily functioning, relationships, work, or school. This level of care is especially appropriate for people who have tried traditional outpatient therapy without significant improvement or who are stepping down from inpatient or residential treatment but still need structured support to prevent relapse and maintain progress.
PHP may also be the right fit for those who are facing a mental health crisis but are stable enough to return home safely at night. It can be a lifeline for individuals navigating complex emotional, behavioral, or psychological challenges, especially when symptoms are acute but manageable outside of a hospital setting.
Conditions We Treat in PHP
Aliya Mental Health’s PHP health care program is tailored to meet the needs of individuals facing a broad spectrum of mental health diagnoses. These include, but are not limited to:

- Anxiety disorders, such as generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and social anxiety
- Bipolar disorder, including those in manic, depressive, or mixed states
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex trauma
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and related disorders
- Personality disorders, such as borderline personality disorder
- Schizoaffective disorder and other psychotic spectrum conditions
- Co-occurring disorders, where mental health symptoms are present alongside substance use issues
Our team is experienced in working with dual diagnoses and individuals with complex clinical presentations. We take the time to understand each person’s unique experience and tailor treatment accordingly.
What Treatment Looks Like in PHP
A day in PHP at Aliya Mental Health is carefully structured to create a safe, therapeutic environment that fosters healing and growth. patients typically attend programming five days a week, often for six or more hours a day. The treatment schedule is designed to provide the intensity and consistency needed to stabilize symptoms, while also offering the flexibility for patients to return home and begin applying new coping strategies in real life.
Treatment includes a combination of individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, and psychoeducational sessions. patients work closely with a multidisciplinary team of licensed mental health professionals, including psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, and case managers. Psychiatric care is a key part of PHP, and includes medication evaluation, medication management, and regular check-ins to monitor progress.
Group therapy sessions address a wide range of topics such as emotional regulation, communication skills, mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, self-compassion, and relapse prevention. Through these sessions, patients not only gain insights from professionals but also benefit from peer support and shared experiences, helping reduce isolation and build a sense of community.
Family involvement is often an important part of treatment. When appropriate, loved ones are invited to participate in therapy sessions or educational programming that helps them understand mental health conditions and learn how to provide effective support. We believe that healing often happens in the context of relationships, and we work with families to promote long-term recovery and improved dynamics.
PHP vs. Other Levels of Care
Understanding where PHP fits in the continuum of care can help individuals and families make informed decisions about treatment. Inpatient or residential treatment involves 24-hour care in a hospital or facility and is typically reserved for individuals in immediate crisis or at risk of harming themselves or others. On the other end of the spectrum, traditional outpatient therapy often involves just one or two sessions per week and may not provide the intensity needed for those with more severe symptoms.
PHP occupies the middle ground. It offers much more support and structure than outpatient therapy but allows patients to live at home and maintain some aspects of their daily life. It’s also
an important step-down option for individuals leaving inpatient care who still need comprehensive support to safely transition back into their communities.
Aliya Mental Health also offers Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), which provide a lower level of care than PHP. While both PHP and IOP involve group and individual therapy, IOP typically requires fewer hours per week and is better suited to individuals who have made progress but still need moderate clinical support.
