LGBTQ+ Mental Health Treatment Program

The LGBTQ+ community faces unique challenges that can increase the risk of mental health disorders, substance use, trauma, and self-harm. These risks often go beyond personal struggles, as discrimination, harassment, and violence from others can further impact well-being. At Aliya Mental Health, we are committed to providing LGBTQ+ individuals with the support, tools, and resources they need to heal, grow, and build a brighter future.

Our LGBTQ+-specific program offers a safe, affirming environment where true and lasting recovery is possible. We invite you to explore our center and see how our compassionate, tailored approach can help you—or a loved one—experience effective rehabilitation and meaningful transformation.

What Is an LGBTQ+ Addiction Treatment Program?

LGBTQ-specific programs exist for mental health disorders, substance use disorders, behavioral challenges, and co-occurring disorders. Essentially, we offer treatment for the struggles our guests are facing, but in our LGBTQ-specific program, we provide a tailored plan for this community. Topics in recovery are based around relevant issues LGBTQ+ members battle and carry as wounds. These include discrimination, isolation, challenging family dynamics, identity, stigma, and more. In short, LGBTQ+ addiction treatment varies from other programs because it is designed to accept and care for sexual minorities.

At Aliya Mental Health, we offer comprehensive recovery treatment that addresses people from the holistic point of view. We believe a healthy person is composed of a healthy mind, body, and spirit. Also in this view, we believe external factors and experiences contribute to a person’s overall wellness. Thus, we unpack trauma and pain while at the same time addressing mental, physical, and spiritual wholeness.

Why LGBTQ+ Addiction Treatment Matters

All people face struggles, especially when they have a history of addiction and mental illness. And each individual’s experience of the world and their unique place in it differs. Therefore, treatment must cater to each person to bring about healing. However, members of the LGBTQ+ community usually carry additional pain on top of their addiction and/or mental illness. They may be working through identity challenges, rejection, shame, loneliness, and displacement as a result of their sexual orientation.

Commonly, LGBTQ+ members navigate through life with immense fear for their safety, as sexual minorities face discrimination (which increases likelihood of drinking). Even

further, they often have stories of bullying, family rejection, homelessness, or STDs, which are all risk factors for addiction.

It is paramount that the LGBTQ+ community receives quality treatment for addiction, mental health, and dual diagnoses. Yet, they also deserve safe spaces free from judgement and fear, where they can feel comfortable to access their core identity. LGBTQ + programming provides great value in bringing community members together to heal in a supportive environment.

LGBTQ+ Addiction Statistics

Those who identify as LGBTQ+ members have a higher risk of substance addiction as well as higher rates of poor mental health. There are a number of factors contributing to their higher likelihood of unwellness, including societal stigma, fear of violence and harassment, lost family ties, and social rejection. Compared to heterosexual peers, LGBTQ+ members have notably higher statistics of addiction and mental disorders. For example, an estimated 20-30 percent of the queer community have substance use disorders (SUDs) compared to only nine percent of heterosexuals. Additionally, approximately 30-60 percent of the LGBTQ+ community struggle with mental disorders like depression and anxiety.

Statistics like these showcase the drastic need for LGBTQ-safe treatment centers that specialize in helping and equipping sexual minorities in their recovery. Aliya Mental Health’s facility is one of those safe places

How Our LGBTQ+ Program Works

There is an undeniable need for LGBTQ-specific treatment. Many people stay trapped in illness because they don’t realize programs exist just for them. It’s important to utilize the ample resources available to you. They can help reverse the damage of substance abuse and mental illness. Fortunately, recovery programming through Aliya Mental Health brings healing.

When you enter our LGBTQ+ addiction and mental health treatment, you will start by creating a personalized care plan for your upcoming time. Immediately, you will be introduced to empathetic and supportive team members: doctors, psychiatrists, counselors, holistic therapists, and case managers. They will help you with every part of the process, including verifying your insurance, setting your recovery timeline, and providing prescriptions.

Because we are a holistic-oriented treatment provider, you will participate in both evidence-based psychotherapy and alternative therapy techniques. Further, sessions are both one-on-one and group-based. You will work through programming in a safe environment with other LGBTQ+ individuals on the same journey. Their support will foster community, trust, and vulnerable communication that’s both judgment-free and compassionate.

Research-Driven Care

By entering a LGBTQ-specific program, you know you’ll be meeting with licensed professionals who are also knowledgeable in the psychological impact of sexual orientation. We follow an evidence-based integrative healing treatment modality that prioritizes whole-being wellness.

Holistic Therapies

Holistic therapies take into account all parts of a person to achieve transformational wellness. To only address part of the problem is to leave a person with an unresolved sickness. In our LGBTQ-specific program, we address every concern, issue, and area of illness for all-encompassing healing.

Levels of Care for LGBTQ+ Treatment

We break our programming into unique levels of care, providing flexible options for everyone to heal the way they need. Treatment is separated into inpatient rehab, outpatient rehab, and aftercare, representing different living situations, time commitments, and readiness.

Whether you’re looking for yourself or a loved one, here is what to expect from the different levels of care at Aliya Mental Health.

Inpatient Treatment

Inpatient treatment is an intensive care level for those who require 24/7 support and aid. Those with substance addictions begin inpatient rehab with medical detoxification to remove toxins from their bodies. Because guests live in-center, they are able to completely immerse themselves in a safe environment to complete major healing work.

Outpatient Treatment

Outpatient treatment is a later level of care with more flexibility in daily scheduling. Guests live in their own housing arrangements and attend sessions in-center. For those with obligations at home or a preference to manage their independence, this level is ideal. Notably, many of our guests transition from inpatient treatment to outpatient treatment when they are ready.

Aftercare

Once individuals complete inpatient and outpatient rehab, they remain valued members of the Aliya community. Aftercare is a level after graduating from rehab to offer ongoing support during the transitional period. We offer Sober Living homes for sober peers to live while working and paying rent at a lower cost than other housing. We also offer ongoing therapy, case management, and community events we encourage our alumni to participate in.

Who Is LGBTQ+ Treatment Right For?

Only you know what your experience has been, but you can let others in to help you find healing. Any member of the LGBTQ+ community who struggles with mental health challenges and/or substance abuse can find refuge in our programs. Not only do we provide diagnoses and address symptoms, we also treat co-occurring issues. These include co-existing substance use disorders and mental health disorders. Markedly, we understand illness is complicated, just as people are. We accept you in all your complexity! We want to help you be your healthiest version.

Find a Treatment Center With an LGBTQ+ Program

When seeking a treatment center, look for a facility that offers an LGBTQ-specific program where your specific triggers and struggles will be addressed. Additionally, look for a rehab facility that’s both licensed and accredited, as these ensure quality care. We also recommend viewing the facilities for comfort and amenities.

We would love to be your wellness haven where you can leave behind the pain of your past. We will take into consideration every factor that brings you here and address them in your individual service plan. If you’re ready to seek LGBTQ+ treatment, fill out a secure contact form or give us a call today.
